Fractals

In high school I was big fan of fractals. I spent of lot of time playing with Fractint, the cutting edge fractal generation software at the time. The program ran in DOS on my dad's 486DX 33Mhz machine. Since fractals require many iterations of equations to render each colorful pixel, each fractal was slow to appear. As I zoomed in to ever more intricate patterns in the fractal, the generation time for the image could take many hours, so I would devise plans to have it finish while I was sleeping through the night.

I later arrived at College and discovered the web with it's amazing ability share images across the world. I immediately started searching for websites on fractals, making Spanky's Fractal Database one of the first websites I ever visited. I didn't really understand how the web worked in the those early days, so I looked at the webpage on the sly. I was sure I was running up the College's phone bill being connected to to a website in Canada for hours on end. Now I take that sort of miracle for granted, although I can't say I ever did figure out the magic of it all.
